Welcome and Introductions
Preparing for the upgrade to Drupal 9
This presentation will give you overview of how to prepare for the upcoming upgrade to Drupal 9. We'll discuss how to check your downloaded modules for Drupal 9 compatibility, as well as how to audit and update your custom code. We'll even upgrade a custom-coded module from Drupal 8 to Drupal 9 live during the talk. The presentation will last about 30 minutes, followed by 10 minutes of Q&A.
Birds of a Feather Discussions and Drupal Q&A
In this portion of the meetup, we'll break into different session "rooms" by industry or area of interest. Each group can talk about how the presentation relates your particular projects or any other topics you would like to discuss. We'll also have one session for general Drupal Q&A.
Why a virtual meetup?
As the Drupal community has professionalized, the local user group culture has been in decline. Drupal users and developers are increasingly employed at large organizations, with substantial project budgets and multiple team members. There's less of a need to rely on the local community for support.
Also, while we wish there were a lot of young people coming into the Drupal community, the truth is we're getting older. Members of the community increasingly have family obligations in the evening, when in-person meetups are typically held. Our meetups will be held during the day, so people can attend while they are at work.
And of course, some people live in the middle of North Dakota (or similar), and never had a local Drupal user group!
That's why we've created Drupal Online. This is a Drupal user group that everyone can attend, no matter where you are, no matter who you work for, no matter what your skill level is. We're trying to reclaim some of that old-school user group magic in our new remote work world. Will it work? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Help us find out by attending!
Isn't this just a webinar?
No. This is a live, interactive meetup. It will include a main presentation and breakout sessions where you can video chat with other Drupal users in your industry or area of interest.
What are the software requirements to attend the meetup?
We will be using the Hopin virtual event system. Hopin works on desktop computers, using only a web browser. If you want to participate in the video chats, you will also need a video camera and a microphone. Text-based chat is available if you're not able to do videoconferencing.
If I sign up will I get a recording after the meetup?
No. This is a live event.
Really. This is not a webinar. It's not a Youtube video. This is a live, interactive event. Our goal is to offer presentations that are short, focused, and interesting, and to help you network with groups of similar Drupal users who you may never have met given your location and your schedule. This can only happen if everyone shows up at the same time for the live event.
Do you have a Code of Conduct?
Yes. See the Code of Conduct page for details.
